Ausgefuhrte Bauwerke, 2 vols. bound as one
Berlin, Ernst & Korn, [1850-62], folio contemp. half leather. Vol.
I has 30 plates; vol. II [Heft 1 - 4 + Supp. ] has 38 plates. First Edition.
Rare. NUC locates 2 copies and the copy at CCA in Montreal.
A very good copy with some light scattered spotting; there is a circular
private ownership stamp on each title.
A magnificent architectural record of the buildings designed by Hitzig.
Each of the buildings depicted was actually constructed, thereby creating
an invaluable record of many buildings that were completely destroyed
during WW II. Hitzig was employed to design a variety of buildings. Each
is represented in the book; simple farm structures, townhouses, villas,
chateauxs, banks, arenas, exhibition halls of all kinds, banks, clubs,
and government buildings. Most of the buildings are accompanied by superb
chromolithographic elevations followed by detailed plans. Occasionally
internal design appointments and color schemes are depicted. In volume
I the preface states that book was issued to serve as a record of both
buildings and designs; the text is in French, German and English. By
volume II the publisher had dropped the English text (denoting poor sales
?). The supplementary plates are all present. The chormolithographic
color elevations of the residences, banks, horse arenas are of the highest
quality.Given the subscription publication period of 12 yrs. this is
a very difficult book to find in the trade.
$9,500.
